Manuel Herrador-Colmenero (Manu) graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Jaén (2006-2009) and Faculty of Sport Sciences at the University of Granada, Spain (2009-2011). He did the Reseach and Teaching in Physical Activity and Health Sciences Master in the University of Jaén (2010), the Doctoral Theses in Biomedicine at the University of Granada (2013-2018), thanks to the FPU Grant. He is teacher in La Inmaculada Teacher Training Centre since 2018.

His main research interests are:

– Physical activity and mode of commuting assessment.

– Phyical activity promotion strategies.

– Active methodologies as alternative in Physical Education lessons.

Contribution: This work analyse the psychometric characteristics of a tool to assess the active commuting to and/or from school. Up to date, there were used different assessment tools, but the diversity of them and its limited quality difficulted the comparisons between studies.

Contribution: In this work, autonomy and safety perceptions were studied in children who commuted actively and independently to school. This is the first Spanish study that analyse these variables, highlighting for teachers and policy makers the relevance to propose strategies that encourage active and independent.

Contribution: this study analyse the relationship between de active commuting to and/or from school and weather (data obtained from the National Agency of Meteorology). Findings of this work reveal that middle weather conditions are associated with active commuting to and/or from school.

Contribution: This work studies the pattern of modes of commuting to and/or from school along school-life. The commuting to and/or from school behaviour is modified with the school stage change. These stage changes should be considered when strategies to encourage active commuting to and/or from school are designed.

Contribution: The study analyse the independent mobility to and/or from school in Spanish children and adolescents. Age and gender differences to commute independently have been found, being relevant to focus strategies to promote this behavior in children and female student.
