Low physical fitness, physical inactivity, excess adiposity and other cardiovascular risk factors are closely linked to numerous chronic diseases, including several types of cancer. Since many tumors may have a metabolic origin, it is essential to understand how fitness, physical activity, adiposity and other cardiovascular risk factors are related to cancer incidence and mortality.
In this context, the PreCaFit project, funded by the European Union, aims to analyze these associations in large epidemiological cohorts. It will also explore how physical exercise may influence various biomarkers related to cancer development. To achieve this, objective measurements and data from extensive population-based databases will be used.
The project’s findings will provide key scientific evidence for the design of more effective and safer prevention strategies and will help identify lifestyle-related behaviors that could reduce the risk of cancer.
Current status: Preparation of publications.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska Curie grant agreement No 101028929.
