Brief description of the line of research:
We have been researching for more than a decade about a behavior that young people perform on a daily and universal basis, active transportation mainly done on foot or by bicycle to and from school, which is a great opportunity to increase daily physical activity.
Initially, we demonstrated that this behavior can generate benefits in the physical and mental health of young people. These projects have been awarded by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs as part of the NAOS strategy, and have been carried out in collaboration with the Directorate General of Traffic.
In addition, we are currently leading research projects to discern how the urban environment influences the active movement of young people, as well as to determine the energy expenditure generated by different journeys, and especially the benefits derived from commuting daily by bicycle. All this scientific evidence, together with different strategic actions, have contributed to the fact that it is now a mandatory content in the educational curriculum of the latest National Educational Low.
