Cristina Cadenas Sánchez, awarded by the Spanish Society of Obesity for her work on child and adolescent health

The researcher Cristina Cadenas-Sánchez is leading “PREFIT-UP”, a study that will track changes in weight and health among children and adolescents in Spain over several years.

Cristina Cadenas-Sánchez, a researcher at the Faculty of Sport Sciences of the University of Granada, has been distinguished by the Spanish Society of Obesity (SEEDO) in the first edition of its research project grants.

The awarded project, “PREFIT-UP”, will analyse the evolution of body weight and cardiovascular and mental health from preschool age through adolescence. To this end, it will draw on data from the PREFIT cohort (2014–2015), which assessed children in ten Spanish cities, and will also examine the influence of sex, socio-economic status and ethnic background.

This recognition strengthens the UGR’s commitment to research in child health and obesity, and will help generate new evidence to guide more effective, equitable and context-sensitive prevention strategies for children and adolescents.
