📷 Palma Chillón receives first prize in the UGR photography competition “Yes Women Can, We Could, We Can”
Professor Palma Chillón Garzón, researcher at the PROFITH group and the Faculty of Sport Sciences of the University of Granada, has been awarded the first prize in the photography competition “YES WOMEN CAN, WE COULD, WE CAN”, whose selected images are part of CalendariA 2026, an initiative promoted by the UGR Vice-Rectorate for Equality, Inclusion and Social Commitment.
The photograph portrays Madina, a 4-year-old girl who lives with her family in Tajikistan, at an altitude of 3,600 metres, and invites reflection on the inequalities that continue to shape the opportunities available to many girls and women. In Tajikistan, school dropout among girls increases during secondary education: only one in three university students is a woman, and the average age of marriage for women is 20.
The image was taken during Palma’s journey last summer by bicycle along part of the Silk Road, and it has been recognised for its ability to make visible, through an everyday scene, a social reality linked to gender inequality.
