Irene Esteban-Cornejo earned her Bachelor in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences in 2010 and her Master in Physical Education Teacher Training in 2011 from Autonomous University of Madrid. After that, she did her PhD in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (2014) at Autonomous University of Madrid. She continued as a posdoctoral researcher at Autonomous University of Madrid during 2015. She did several research stays in USA, Brasil and Portugal. At the moment, she is a Juan de la Cierva research Fellow at the Faculty of Sport Sciences at the University of Granada.

  • Her main research interests are:
    • Assessment of physical fitness in young people.
    • Objective assessment of physical activity and sedentariness using accelerometry.
    • Lifestyle behaviors, health-related markers and its influence on academic performance in young people.
    • Effects of exercise on physical and mental health outcomes, as well as on cognition and brain in young people.
    • Physical activity and its impact on frailty syndrome and cognitive impairment in older adults.
